School Attendance
Good attendance is essential if pupils are to take full advantage of school and gain the appropriate skills which will equip them for life.
Springfield Primary School aims to achieve good attendance by operating an attendance policy within which staff, pupils, parents, local community and the Education Welfare Service can work in partnership. The school will monitor attendance and ensure quick and early intervention if a problem is identified. Pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.
The staff will encourage good attendance and liaise with home and other agencies when this is appropriate. Good attendance will be seen as an achievement in its own right and recognised as such by the school. The attendance policy is based on the premise of equal opportunities for all.
The Government expects schools and local authorities to:
- Promote good attendance and reduce absence, including persistent absence;
- Ensure every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled;
- Act early to address patterns of absence.
Parents to perform their legal duty by ensuring their children of compulsory school age who are registered at school attend regularly.
All pupils to be punctual to their lesson.
Therefore, at Springfield we have a duty to ensure that children attend school regularly. We fully appreciate that all children are prone to bouts of illness during their time at school and that on occasions children's attendance will be affected.
Our whole school attendance target for 2022 - 2023 is 96%.
